In our print collection

• Do a subject search using the Online Catalog. Most biographies are arranged alphabetically according to the subject's name.  Collective biographies, books that profile several people, are located in the 920s both on the circulating and the reference shelves.

• Check the American Heritage collection for articles on the name of the subject.
  

• Check the general encyclopedias (i.e. World Book, Encyclopedia Americana, Compton’s, and others) by first using the index (usually found in the last volume).

Using the online information databases

The best ones to use are:

• An outstanding gateway to Black Studies including scholarly essays, recent periodicals, historical newspaper articles, and much more.
• A favorite encyclopedia among students.
• Have this service find the very best websites that are on the "free" Internet. It beats looking for the best ones in Google or Yahoo!
